Why Do We Trust Them?

You know I have been wondering lately about something and perhaps some of you can help me with this. Why do we trust Hollywood celebrities about anything? From their product endorsements to their political endorsements?

Let's face it friends, we don't know these people or what their real motives might be when they tell you what they think is the best thing for you. Now as far as politics, Hollyweird has always back the liberal democrat, which perhaps explains the terrible state that California is in as they are virtually bankrupt.

But not only politics, why should we believe them about anything? What gives them the all powerful knowledge that we must not possess? Would you like my opinion on that (after all that's the title of the blog)? We give them that power by believe them just because they have money and fame, they have no other credentials.

So just remember when George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, or Sean Penn try to sell you something ( be it a product or their political beliefs) that this is simply their opinion, do yourself a favor and form your own opinions   . As for this post, well, this only Bob's opinion

Pawn Stars

I have been sitting here, watching Pawn Stars, and enjoying it I might add. I really never thought that I would enjoy "reality tv", but apparently, I was wrong. Now like I've said in earlier posts, I know that most of this is scripted.

Let's look at it, Chumlee, of course, is going to be everyone's favorite buffoon as he messes up a lot but to make up for this, his character is easy to love. and then you have the old man, terrible actor, but that's what makes him funny. Rick and Corey are the father and son foil. Now you can see how bad all of the acting is, but I believe that this is the charm of the show.

Also, it's fun to watch people bring in unique things from history. Check this one out friends, I recommend it, but then that's only my opinion.

Auction Hunters

Well the next "reality" television show that I would like to recommend (and not because it actually is reality but because it's just plain entertaining). I have been enjoying Auction Hunters lately, now I know that they only show the good finds and it's hard telling how many units they buy before actually getting a good one, but it's fun to watch them find something that is worth a bit or has historical significance.

Now when you listen to the guys narrate, while they show them looking through and discussing what their hopes are for that particular storage unit. This isn't what I would call an exciting show by any means, but it's fun, and isn't that what entertainment is all about? But then this is only Bob's opinion, what's yours?

Hardcore Pawn

Well friends, (sorry it has been so long since I've posted, but I am a new father and my lawn service just kicked in for the season. I promise, I will do better) I have done something that I said I would never do, and that is, I am starting to get into a few "reality" shows.

I guess I will simply do a post on each on that I am doing, so this one will be on Hardcore Pawn. Now, I know that these shows are scripted and this one is easier to see through the most, but dog gonnit, it's entertaining! My wife doesn't appreciate some of the language that is used (well to be honest, she doesn't like any of the foul language used) but as long as it's censored, I figure, what the heck?

I watch the show to see the items that are brought in to sell or pawn, but lets face it, the scripted arguments between the family members is an added bonus. I would recommend this show for you just to check out, you may not like it or it may be a guilty pleasure that you might enjoy.

What Makes George Clooney a Huge Movie Star?

I never watch award shows as they are about nothing but politics and who paid whom for which person or film to win. In saying that I was on facebook recently and I saw where so many were disappointed the George Clooney didn't win an Oscar (George was raised and went to school in my hometown...a nice guy really).

Now as I like George as a person and I believe that he is a great actor, I am just wondering what made him a "star"? I think back to the movies that he has acted in, and there were several really good movies, but none of them would be what I would call a blockbusting hit that everyone saw (except maybe "Oh Brother, Where Art Though" and "Oceans 11").

Again, before saying what I will say, I will tell you that I like George and his family and George is a great actor, but the majority of his films have pretty much bombed, thus why is he held up as this awesome "movie star"? Well, either way, congrats to you George on your success.

This is just my opinion, although that why we're here.

The Andy Griffith Show

I really couldn't do a blog on television without doing a post about the great Andy Griffith Show. This show was definitely before it's time. The humor in this show still can't be matched as they didn't write jokes for the show, they wrote situations, unlike most shows back then and today.

With a cast that still can't be touched and with the writing that was provided these great actors it was sure to be a hit! Now I have some favorites from todays television shows but if you really want a good belly laugh and get it by watching a show that entire family can (and will ) enjoy, then this is your show.

I do have a slight complaint that most people do about this show (if you follow this blog you will realize that I find no show perfect and I will let you know why) and that is when it went to color. seems when it left the black and white days the awesome writing went right along with it. If it weren't for the strong cast (minus Don Knotts as he left the show before it went to color) the show would have probably ended right then and there.

Anyway, if you're young and haven't had a chance to visit Mayberry or if you are from another country or have been living under a rock and have never seen the show, you can always check out streaming episodes online and clips on youtube. You won't be disappointed and I believe it may become your favorite too.

The Secret Life of an American Teenager

Well friends, first of all let me say that after watching this show, I am totally hooked! Is this an actual depiction of how it really is for an American teenager and their families? Naw, not ever close. Well maybe the extreme disfunctional families.

I have actually been catching up with this show on Netflix, and I really am hooked (although a child of mine would never be allowed to watch it). At first I though all of the actors (minus the acting veterans) were kind of monotoned, but as it went along,WOW, did they improve!

This cast of young actors really came into their own after a couple seasons. Francia Raisa (who is actually 24) and Ken Baumann's (who is 23) portrayal of a young married couple that delivered a still born child was great acting from the very core of the heart. These episodes had me wanting to cry outloud and if you can do that to me, then I tip my hat to you as a great actor.

I really have a hard time tipping my hat to the PSA in the middle of the show asking teens and parents to talk about sex and that teen pregnancy is 100% avoidable and then going back to a show that seems to have the parents telling these high schoolers, "sure, stay the night with your boyfriend" "sure, move in with your baby's father" "try sexually pleasing yourself instead of having sex with your boyfriend", So I have real issues with the show, but I am old enough to seperate what I like from what I find offensive.

Again, I am hooked on this show, but I would NOT allow a child of mine to watch it, but then, that's my opinion, what's yours?

Is The Day of the Soap Opera Coming to an End?

I have watched Soaps most of my life and am a bit taken back how they are just being tossed into the trash lately. From Guiding Light to One Life to Live, soaps are being canceled left and right and being raplace by talk shows and game shows (which I think we already have plenty of). Some of these shows have been on from 1965 and even earlier.

I am watching Days of our Lives these days and I am really enjoying what they are producing these days. I honestly believe that the viewers started leaving the soaps back when the OJ Simpson trial was televised in place of them.

So here is what I am hoping, and that is that people who enjoy good sappy drama will come back to daytime and support the hardest working actors in the business. I'm watching, are you?

Jerry Springer

This won't be a very popular post, as I think there is a special place in hell for Jerry Springer. I think he is a man of no morals or decent values. Even if you would like to step aside from his , well no better word comes to mind then, stupid show (that in my humble opinion is scripted) then how about his brilliance in paying for hookers with a check when he was mayor of Cincinnati Ohio?

Not to mention that he is a left wing loon that believes Obama is doing a good job with the country (If you think tearing down a country and imposing your socialitic views, then maybe he is (that was sarcasm folks)).

Anyway friends, I won't be spending a lot of time on political views, that perhaps is for another blog somewhere down the road.

What do you think?

Frasier

I am kind of strange when it comes to finding new shows to watch, the strange thing lies in the fact that I normally find the best shows after they have come to an end and into syndication. One of these shows happen to be Frasier, a hilarious spin off of the show Cheers.

Kelsey Grammer had actually played this same role in both shows and this went on for 20 years! I don't think anyone will ever be able to say they did that and kept people entertained the whole time. I still manage to watch this show, actually I watch it twice a day once in the morning and then once at night before bed.

Are you like me and wait til the last minute to check out shows? Check out Frasier.

Once Upon A Time

I have to tell you friends, that I am totally impressed by the scifi series "Once Upon A Time" (8:00pm et Sundays). This show is exactly what I am talking about that is needed when I mention the lack of creativity from series creators and writers these days.

I will be honest, I was weary when it came to watching the first episode, but my wife and I sat down and made ourselves watch it and now, well, we are so hooked that we can hardly wait until the next Sunday. I'm not sure how a show like this can continue since there has to be an ending at some point, since it is written just like a bedtime story (a very dark bedtime story, but a bedtime story none the less) but I am willing to take this ride in order to find out just where it will lead me.

Now friends, just because the characters are from fairy tales don't think this show is for kids, this is a grown ups program that you will be surte to enjoy.

We Need To Return To The Golden Days Of Television

I have to tell you friends, and I am being as honest as can be right now, reality tv is ruining television. First of all, if you actually believe "Reality tv" is real, well you are a bit dilusional. The face of the matter is, is that "reality tv" is quite scripted and quite stupid. Where are the days of the sitcom? Where are the days of the family drama? where are the..well, I could go on and on, but you get my point.

There is very little on television that makes it worth turning the set on for. I have found a few series that I do enjoy (and actually one or two of those "reality" shows as well) but these days I would rather turn on TVLand and the such in order to watch reruns that I love.

Where are the creative people these days? Look back friends at what we used to have; shows like, The Andy Griffith Show, M*A*S*H, All in the Family, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Friends, only to name a few. What do we have these days? Shows like Jersey Shore, Teen Moms,The Bachelor, and I could go on and on but I won't.

So what I plan to do for my next few posts are to highlight some of the few new television shows that you should be watching, and perhaps you could point me in the direction of what you call entertainment and we can compare notes, who knows we may find some common ground.

Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Ok friends, I was going to start this blog with something that is kind of up to date on television, but I have something on my mind and I would like to let it out.

ABC Family has been showing "Whose Line Is It Anyway" on the weekday nights (12:00 am) for quite some time now and it has been something that alot of us fans look forward to. I'm not sure exactly why no other cable channel has picked it up as it is one of the funniest and creative shows on television.

But putting that aside, the powers that be on ABC Family (and I'm not sure why they still call themselves family, as some of their programming doesn't exactly reflect the moniker) has decided to take "Whose Line" off the air (not sure for how long) and replace it with reruns of their original programming and "The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire".

Now I know that they probably know better then I what the ratings reflect, but I have also noticed websites boycotting the station until "Whose Line" is brought back. My thought is, if the show is not doing as well as they want in the time slot where they placed it, then why not try it in a different time slot?

If you've never seen "Whose Line" then you might check them out on youtube, you won't be disappointed.
